入職にあたって、特に学歴や資格は必要とされない。
　入職者は高校や専門学校の卒業者が多い。
　製品包装作業員として一人前と見られるには、入職後はOJTにより安全教育を受け、一連の機械の操作、仕組みを理解し、円滑な作業ができるようになることである。
　関連資格として、民間の「包装管理士」がある。フォークリフトを用いる場合は「フォークリフト運転技能講習修了証」が必要である。
　機械の構造や仕組み及び製造に関する知識、製品・商品を詳細に確認する注意力が求められる。同じ作業の繰り返しを安全に行う集中力も必要である。作業を円滑に進めることができるコミュニケーション力も大切となる。
