入職にあたって、特に資格は必要とされない。材料開発、製品設計、工程管理までを含む総合的な技術者は、大学、大学院で化学（応用化学を含む）、無機材料、物理（物理工学、応用物理含む）、機械工学、電気・電子工学系の理工学科などを専攻した者が多い。製造工程の技術者には、高校、高専等卒の者もいる。
入職後は、OJTによって指導、育成される。開発・設計部門では、専門をより一層深く極めるために、開発テーマは変わっても部門は変わらない場合が多い。製造現場に配属されると、各工程をローテーションして経験しながら適性を見極め、担当業務が決められる場合が多く、その後、班長、係長、課長等管理職へと昇進していく。
高性能なファインセラミックス部材、デバイスを製造するためには、化学、物理、機械工学、電気・電子工学などに関する専門技術の知識を基にした、材料開発、部品設計及び原料調製、成形、焼成、加工、特性評価などの多工程からなる部品製造技術の知識が不可欠である。
また、開発・設計部門では、海外での業務も増加し、英会話、英文資料読解力及び特許の知識が要求される。また、製造部門でも、海外との技術提携、技術指導などの機会が多く、マネージャーに昇進するにつれて、英語力が必要になってくる。設計部門では、CADシステムが用いられるため、そのスキルも必要となる。
