入職にあたって、特に学歴や資格は必要とされない。新卒の場合は、ネット通販企業かネット通販部門をもつ企業に入職してネット通販部門に配属、若しくは他部門に配属された後、異動により担当するという形になる。中途採用の場合は、職種を限定した求人がほとんどなので、そのままネット通販部門に配属になるケースが多い。急成長分野であるため、人材不足の状況であり、即戦力が期待される中途採用などの求人は多い。
　なお、ネットショップを個人で開業して食品を販売する場合には食品衛生法に基づく営業許可が必要なように、扱う商品によっては販売免許が必要なこともある。
