入職にあたって、特に学歴や資格は必要とされない。まずサッシ施工会社に入職し、実務を通して業務に必要な技能や知識を習得する。補助の仕事をこなした後、2～3年で、通常の取付工事ができるようになる。10年以上のベテランになると、指名による仕事も増してくるが、サッシは製品も工法も改良が行われているので、それに対応した技能の向上が常に求められている。
　厚生労働省の定める技能検定の「サッシ施工技能士」や「カーテンウォール施工技能士」の資格を取得すると技術力の証明となる。
　経験を積み、技能と管理技術を身につけ、現場をまとめられるようになった人の中には、取付工事を一括請負をする人もいる。更に独立開業するケースもある。
　基本的には肉体労働であり、足場上の作業などもあるため、体力が必要である。
