生地の柔らかさや厚みを念頭においたパターン制作ができるようになるには、かなりの経験と技術、ファッションセンスが必要となる。また、パターン設計技術に加えて、縫製加工技術も必要となる。服作りが好きであること、ファッションや流行に敏感な感性が求められるほか、数ミリの狂いが生産での問題となることから、几帳面さや集中力も必要となる。
