入職にあたって専門知識や資格は特に必要とされないが、就業者は大学卒が多い。貿易取引は外国語での交渉が必要となるため、入職後に語学研修が継続して行われる。また、入職後数ヵ月間は、貿易実務をはじめとする国際的なビジネス慣習等の研修が設けられている。更に、取り扱う商品が幅広いため、どこに配属されるかによって実務に必要な専門知識は異なり、専門的な研修に加えてOJTで身につけるのが一般的である。
